Brantley ran away with a 20-point second period over Red Level on Thursday night to pull out a 61-58 win over the Tigers at the Straughn Christmas Shoot Out.
RLS coach Allen Catrett said Brantley got the win in “transition,” a far cry from the Tigers’ first loss to the Bulldogs, in which Brantley hit 14 three-pointers.
“The difference between this game and the last game was that they didn’t hit near the many threes they hit,” Catrett said. “They still beat us in transition, and we had too many turnovers. The defense was a lot better for us. We’ve got to make sure we set the tempo where we want it at.”
Brantley led 29-18 at half time, and the Tigers had a couple opportunities to tie the ball game up at the end, but “we didn’t do it,” Catrett said.
“We had 27 turnovers,” he said. “If we can cut down the turn overs, make the defensive stops and make the lay ups we missed in the inside easy shots, then we’d win.”
Nick Dorsey led the Tigers with 25 points.
Red Level (3-4) will play Georgiana today at 3:30 p.m.
